The Opportunity

Do you want to make a real difference in driving the sustainability performance of infrastructure projects, helping clients transition to a zero-carbon and carbon-positive future? 

ECO3 Partnership is looking to recruit a Senior Sustainability Consultant with solid experience in carbon management and integrating sustainability in the design and implementation of building projects. Experience delivering sustainability strategies, low carbon assessment, and renewable energy services would be great.

You will provide excellent technical support for our team and work with our clients for an exciting range of clients in diverse fields, including agriculture, aquaculture, retail, electric vehicles, schools, industrial clients, and water and energy companies. 

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Consultant who will work with our team to deliver our sustainability services, including net-zero carbon advisory.  

The right person will have a passion for and experience in sustainability and net-zero carbon. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our consultancy and engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.

You can be based remotely, but the role will include occasional travel to clients’ offices/ sites throughout the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for our existing clients and in-house teams about carbon management services, and develop relationships with existing and new clients.

  • Identify, prioritize and manage sustainability characteristics, risks and opportunities for projects and operations.

  • Develop sustainability strategies, design and management plans.

  • Work as part of project teams providing pragmatic technical support to influence project development and drive delivery of optimal project sustainability performance.

  • Manage and coordinate sustainability inputs on our projects.

  • Develop and produce compliance reports through precise data analysis.

  • Provide advice to clients/ design teams on the most cost-effective and beneficial route to compliance.

  • Represent the company and continue to build personal, team and company reputation.

  • Working Practices: Flexible, distributed and outcomes-driven. Home-based work with the ability to travel to office or client sites and team workshops in London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. We prefer a candidate in Glasgow/Edinburgh or Manchester area so we can meet in a shared working environment for project work.

  • Working hours: 9.00 am to 5.30 pm on Mondays to Fridays.

  • Holidays: 28 days paid holiday in each holiday year.

  • Salary: Competitive. Your pay will be based on your skills and experience (£45-£65k pa + performance-based bonus).

Requirements

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level with a BEng/MSc in an Engineering, Energy, or related field (sustainability / environment-related). Be working towards chartered status and full or associate membership of a recognized relevant professional body. 

You will possess sustainability-related solid expertise, a wide range of skill sets and a willingness to participate in a broad selection of projects.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have an excellent understanding of sustainability, mainly carbon and resource efficiency, in a buildings and infrastructure context. Other transferrable experiences will be considered.

  • Ideally, six years plus in sustainability and carbon accounting

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and experience working collaboratively with our teams.

  • Be highly self-motivated, possessing strong enthusiasm and commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes.

  • Possess and maintain knowledge of sustainability topics, building relationships through presenting on topics including:

    • Carbon accounting and disclosure reporting practices

    • ESG and sustainability reporting

    • New net zero policies and regulations

    • TCFD and CSRD and evolving implications

  • Energetic and passionate about sustainability, keen to champion it and lead behavioural change

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Be flexible, adaptable, and prepared to take on new challenges in other aspects of our business.

  • Have strong report writing, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Have experience with UK sustainability and environmental regulations, guidance, and standards. 

  • Familiarity with standards and methods for assessing and reporting on the carbon performance of infrastructure projects would also be an advantage.

  • Be able to facilitate workshops (in person and via videoconferencing through Teams/Zoom) with a broad range of stakeholders.

  • Have a full driving licence.

Technical

The range of experience we are looking for is diverse.  We have outlined beneficial experiences below – though we wouldn’t expect all of these to be addressed:

Providing technical sustainability support to clients in a wide range of areas, including:

  • Sustainability strategies

  • Renewable feasibility studies

  • Building performance

  • Whole-life carbon assessments

  • Climate adaptation/mitigation strategies

  • Experience modelling net zero carbon roadmaps

  • Calculation of energy and carbon emissions from a range of technology types and an ability to undertake gap analysis on input data and resolve issues.

  • Able to provide advice to clients/ design teams on the most cost-effective and beneficial route to achieve sustainability targets

  • Knowledge of the design stage, construction, and in-use stages.  

Low Carbon Energy Assessor accreditation would be beneficial.

Very competent in Microsoft Excel. Experience in Python and PowerBi would be beneficial.

Competent in Office and Windows applications

A good understanding of building physics.
